  8. President's official residence shows its age, so new tenant
  9. Marilyn Quayle wants $578,000 to fix it up. That's double last
  10. year's amount and $200,000 more than the White House requested
  11. for the former Admiral's House. The additional money, if
  12. granted, will go to carve out bedrooms on the top floor for the
  13. three Quayle kids and an office for their mom; the remaining
  14. $378,000 is for maintenance. Congressional staffer Aubrey
  15. ("Tex") Gunnels, who endorses the increase, looked the place
  16. over and gloomily concluded, "The whole thing is about to fall
  17. down."
